WE NOW NEED ANOTHER 100 ACRE SITE
Genentech has agreed to build a huge new facility at the Evergreen/Shute Road site in Hillsboro. It will not manufacture drugs, but it will be a final packing and shipping facility for its biotech/pharmaceutical products.
-250 to 300 jobs family-wage jobs
-$250 million construction beginning this year
-Completion and full operation by 2010
It pays to expand the urban growth boundary. But we've just lost the whole 100 acres, so Metro MUST PUSH TO EXPAND THE BOUNDARY TO ADD SEVERAL NEW SITES FOR GOOD EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY JUST LIKE THIS.

I am surprised that they located on the edge of the UGB, on a greenfield site. You would think they would prefer a more urban infill site such as at South Waterfront.
You'd even think they didn't give a crap about the Young & Restless creative workforce so plentifully serving and sipping coffee downtown, either, wouldn't you?
