Amnesty International
I was in Portland this last weekend, whcih was also home to an Amnesty International meeting. As a result, there were three protests, including the rather new emphasis on Dafur. As this is Portland, and there appears to be a protest at least every other day anyways, I really didn't notice the protest activity. Nonetheless, I was reminded of how my respect for Amnesty International as an organization has dropped. At some point in time, their focus has shifted towards indicting GW Bush and the United States as the root of all evil, and sort of dropped the ball on the old human rights issue. I am pleased to see the recent emphasis on Dafur, but these guys would probably be protesting to stop the war if we actually tried to intervene. It reminds me of a post I read years ago, I believe by Mark Steyn. He was giving his neighbor a hard time about his "Free Nepal" bumper sticker, and asking if he had any ideas how to accomplish that. No doubt, if Don Rumsfeld said that sounded like a great idea, lets dispatch some troops to accomplish it, the same guy would oppose the action. Perhaps if we just closed our eyes, clicked our heals together three times and wished for it, world peace and justice would appear.

Note to Amnesty International. The "Bush is Hitler" crowd already has plenty of support, keep your guilty white liberal money for really helping persons that don't have a voice.
