Creative Class Patron Saint: Portland a "Third World Country"

That's right, Chuck Palahniuk - Portland's living patron saint of the creative class movement - considers Portland a third world paradise for the quasi-rich. Check out his answer at The Onion's AV Club interview when a creative-class reader asks what they need to know before they move to Portland, largely motivated by Palahniuk and Portland's creative reputation:

CP: Bring your own job. Portland is quickly becoming one of those lovely, lush Third World countries where kinda-rich people retire with their money. Here, they can live like kings, generating only service-industry jobs and jacking up housing prices. Portland needs to be getting some decent industry and jobs.

Emphasis added. So, according to he who arguably has done more than any single person to establish Portland's creative/indie/weird creds in the minds of the "creative class," Portland is a dead-end in need of decent industry.
