Wasted Keystrokes
Will Saletan, the national correspondent for Slate.com and a pretty sharp fellow on the issue of abortion has begun a debate with Katha "Never Met an Abortion She Didn't Like, I Refused to Let My Daughter Fly the Flag After 9/11" Pollitt of The Nation magazine about political strategy for pro-abortionists.
He's wasting his time. He's pro-choice, but the tortured soul that also says he's anti-abortion and that's the content of his argument. He strongly believes the Pro-Choice movement needs to embrace a strategy of drastically reducing the number of abortions with other support programs, adoption strategies, abstinence, contraception, etc. He's morally bothered by abortion. The pro-choice movement does embrace the reduction of abortion - Planned Parenthood serves more patients than those seeking abortions.
Katha Pollitt is a poor choice to represent the pro-choice movement, if Sara is right regarding their position. Salatan is right that the pro-choice side needs to be less dogmatic.
